Now for the creation. I had just the rock for this beautiful exotic cat...
First the sketch:
Then the basecoat:
Add the shadows n lights:
and now for the details:
A little larger than palm size ....
Lets find him a cozy bed:
or perhaps i find him a carton box to sleep in? what do you think? hehehehehe

Ah Suzi another tutorial for us, thank you so much.
I like the way you have captured those beautiful stripes on Scoop, and the little mischievous look to his exotic face, and eyes.
Scoop is a very pretty cat, and you have done him justice.

Suzi,
Scoop is a beautiful cat and the finished rock of him is striking. I
like how you've shown the step-by-step method to his completion,
thereby allowing others to emulate your technique. We can see that
you've chosen a suitable rock, base coated it and sketched the basic
design on the rock. Then we see how you've covered most of the rock
in an appropriate wash as the basecoat for the cat. Suitable
photographs show the placement of the colors and then the finished
rock, or I should say cat. Others should find this to be a great
help in creating their own cat rock. Thanks so much.

awwww..thanks Mary Ann..If i had a flat rock large enough, i will use the exact position...but since its a 3D one, i change it but maintain his tilted face.
One of the best moments in my life as a pet artist is when i reunite rockart/pastel art with their owner..
To see the smile across their lips n eyes, perhaps 'sweating eyes' as Janet so fondly use hehehehehe......when they get their portrait/rock in their hands bring me much joy and makes my life as an artist worthwhile.
Remember the Teddy pastel portrait...when d owners came recently and saw it...they emitted a loud "AWWWWWWW..." followed by "KAKAKAKAKAKAKA"...i love it!

Scoop looks amazing! Can't wait to pick him up. He died a year minus two days ago and we still miss him every day. I keep thinking I see him sitting in front of the window. I'll put his pet rock in that place. Cheers, Ellen

Ellen I'm sorry to hear that Scoop died, he really looks like a character, and would have been good company.
I'm glad Suzi painted such a nice painting of him for you.

hello Ellen...glad you drop in to say hello...
am sorry about Scoop....somehow pets that are gone...are never really 'gone'. They remind us of all the wonderful moments and laughter and leave memories at all corners of our lives.
hence the words "Furkids leave pawprints in our hearts". Oh by the way Ellen, i cant get into your blog? It only has a wallpaper of katz tales..thats all.
